About Me

Hi, I’m Desiree Mensah (she/her), a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). I support people who are feeling overwhelmed, stuck in unhelpful patterns, or carrying more than their share — often for a long time. I believe therapy should feel like a safe, collaborative space where you don’t have to have everything figured out before you show up. My work focuses on relationships, attachment patterns, anxiety, mood concerns, and stress — especially for people who are used to being the strong one, the caretaker, or the one who “holds it together.” Together, we’ll explore what’s been shaping your experiences, build insight into your patterns, and develop tools that help you feel more grounded, self-aware, and emotionally secure. I’m especially passionate about supporting the BIPOC community and clients from cultures where mental health isn’t always openly talked about. I offer therapy in both English and Twi, and I strive to provide care that honors your cultural identity, lived experiences, and strengths. My hope is that therapy feels not only supportive, but empowering — helping you reconnect with yourself and move toward a life that feels more fulfilling and aligned.

My Approach:

My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in the belief that there’s nothing “wrong” with you — many of your patterns once helped you survive. I work especially well with people who are used to holding it together for everyone else but feel disconnected from themselves. We’ll gently explore attachment patterns — how you learned to connect, cope, and protect yourself in relationships — and how those patterns may be showing up now. Together, we slow things down, get curious about your patterns, and build awareness around your needs, emotions, and boundaries. I draw from attachment-based and skills-focused approaches in a flexible way, always tailoring therapy to you rather than forcing you into a rigid model.

What to expect in your first session

The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other — no pressure to share everything at once. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, what’s feeling hardest right now, and what you’re hoping might change. I’ll ask some gentle questions to understand your experiences, but we’ll move at your pace. My goal is for you to leave feeling grounded, heard, and with a clearer sense of whether this feels like a good fit.
